Unsubscribe Assistant

Name: Kevin McMillin

Number of Teammates Desired: 2

Description of Idea:
Unsubscribe Assistant allows you to visualize your inbox history to help you determine which emails you've been receiving for years and which you typically never read. Most people have problems keeping a clean inbox, finding that it's much easier to ignore unimportant emails until more important ones bubble up above them. Even users who maintain a "clean" inbox may be using workarounds like Gmail filters and archiving to half-hide unimportant emails, but they persist.

I plan on visualizing common domains in a tree map-like format, helping you to see which single email addresses are taking up the largest parts of your inbox. Users might then be inspired to take action against continuing to receive emails that they never read.

Description of Data:
Most domain email data can be accessed if the user provides their credentials and the server allows IMAP access. Visualization would simply (hah, perhaps not so simply) be a matter of parsing that email data to extract the relevant details.

Additional Information: My formal background is in computer science, and a project this data-rich I feel could benefit from a great designer and someone who has a better knowledge of security/authentication protocols in Gmail or other popular web-mail services.
