Carnegie Mellon Data Analysis

Description of Idea:
I would like to create an app to explore the demographic data available about Carnegie Mellon. The information would allow current students to explore different aspects of the student body (such as enrollment data for different majors) and allow prospective students to explore admissions data. The data also allows for comparisons to “peers,” which are similar universities. Currently, this data is displayed purely in chart form, with some graphs interspersed, and is fairly difficult to process. I hope to visualize the data in a more visual manner that allows users to select different metrics and ultimately, to find patterns in our student body.

Description of Data:
Student data is located in the Carnegie Mellon Factbook, at (http://www.cmu.edu/ira/factbook/facts2012.html). Each Factbook has several different categories, including “Admission and First-year Enrollment,” “Enrollment,” “Finances,” and “Peer Comparisons.” There are at least 7 Factbooks available from recent years, as well as an archive.
